Lame Post #313

Well, I sent the last post off to Kevin for the Bonfire, but he allows multiple entries, so if this one turns out as I suspect it will, I'll submit it as well.

I have to leave for work in one hour, and today, as Loyal Readers know, is one of my 12 (13 this week) hour days. As movie start and end times fluctuate, so do my hours. One week the first show wasn't until 1:40, which meant I could show up at 12:45. Whoo hoo! This week the first show is 12:10, so I have to be there at 11. Why so early? I hear you not asking. Well, I have to let in the kids, so they can pop the popcorn, and turn on the soda machines, and open the candy cabinets, and I have to unlock the doors, turn on all the lights, set up the cash registers and thread the projectors, and check out the place to see what has fallen off or crumbled or started leaking overnight. And for some reason people always start showing up and trying to buy tickets 45 minutes before the first show starts....
Which reminds me: How come nobody ever shows up to buy tickets 10 minutes or so before the movie starts? A few come an hour early and then have to sit in the lobby and wait while we clean the theater from the previous show; the majority seem to arrive at the posted showtime. So they get in the ticket line at two minutes to 7 for the 7 o'clock show, get in the concession line for their popcorn and soda, head into the theater about 7:10 or 7:15, and then come back out to the lobby to ask for a refund because they missed the start of the movie!
Well, duh!
Just because the first-run theaters have twenty minutes of ads and commercials before the show starts doesn't mean that we do too... 97% of our movies have no previews, and the rest come with one or two 1 minute ads tops. It's logical when you think about it--they have 18 or so screens to fiddle with, while we have only two; too many ads and we lose one whole showing a day in each theater....
Okay, I think I rambled on aimlessly long enough...
