Ungeeklyness bites big fat hairy boulders

Ever since I got "upgraded" from Windows 95 to Windows ME, my Mozilla browser has been giving me all sorts of grief. It locks up unexpectedly, and I have to use the three-fingered salute to close it and start over. Because I am technologically-impaired (I blame the government) I cannot determine how to fix this problem. Today after the fifth Ctrl-Alt-Del I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Unexpectedly, all my bookmarks are still there, which means it didn't completely uninstall, so whatever is causing the problem probably didn't uninstall either....

If this doesn't work, I may have to resort to Percussive Maintenance...

I hate Bill Gates.

The technical term for 'percussive maintenance' is "Physical Reboot", as opposed to the logical or soft reboot. :)

Thor mentioned this one this morning (Thor Schrock, Schrock Innovations - local company). It doesn't matter if YOU are using IE, your OS is. Make sure all your IE patches are up to speed.

The nature of the problem is two fold.

Part one - Windows ME. worst.OS.ever
Part two - IE. Worth every cent they charge for it, but only if there is a rebate, too.

If you want to stay with Windows, get either XP (Pro) or at least Windows2000.

Give the hell up on IE. Keep a copy around for stuff that absolutely refuses to open in anything but IE, but for mainline surfology, go with something else. Netscape isn't too bad, but you have to pay attention and kill all the AOL hooks during install. The tabbed browsing feature is pretty handy.

And dear Susie, it is a well, well known fact -
