Car and Driver

I think I'm having a mid-life crisis. Or, maybe I've just gone insane. I sold my beloved Tracer and bought a Hyundai Accent.

The funny thing is, I had decided that when I bought a new car, it would be a sedan, and it would not be blue. So what do I fall in love with while test-driving? A "three-door" "ice blue" car! It was either fate or severe mental defect...

Of course, I now have massive car payments to make, as well as increased insurance and license plate costs. And have I had any luck on the new job front? Nope. Nada. Zilch.

It seems like no one wants to take a chance on an over-qualified, over-educated woman whose work experience is primarily in retail. They don't seem to understand that if you can make it to the top in retail, you can handle anything anyone can throw at you.

I thought I did pretty well in the interviews (when I got interviews). After all, how many hundreds of applicants have I interviewed over the years? But, they always seem to go with "another candidate."

Maybe I need to stop applying for jobs for which I know I am qualified, and start applying for openings about which I haven't a clue--Widget Production Overseer or Ballet Instructor, perhaps. I know virtually nothing about so many things! Race Horse Handicapping, Automotive Repair, Surgical Nursing and Astrophysics all come to mind.

Hmmm... I think I'll go check the want ads for Heavy Equipment Operators...
